A tabletop RPG on your phone

Every table needs a storyteller. Yours is waiting.

Make a hero. Say anything. An AI storyteller plays the world and everyone in it, and the dice decide what happens. Play alone with companions, or around one table with friends.

Free to start, no card iPhone and Android 18 and over Rules from the SRD 5.2

Watch the trailer

The trailer: two minutes of one real story, played on a phone. No sound.

How a turn plays

You say what your hero does. The dice and the story answer.

Swipe through the four screens.

  1. Making a hero: Ilyra Moonweave, an elf wizard, painted from the words typed under her portrait.

    Make your hero

Pick a class and a people, say what they look like, and the game paints them. Or take a ready hero and begin at once.

  2. The action sheet: an order typed to Ilyra to cast Magic Missile at the lead wolf, her moves as chips, and suggested moves with their skills.

    Say what you do

Type anything in your own words, or tap a move. Tell a companion what to do, and they do it.

  3. Two d20s thrown with advantage: a 20 and a 17. Critical, 21.

    Throw the die

When the outcome is in doubt, you roll a d20 and add your skill. Rolls are made on our server, so nobody can nudge them, not even the storyteller.

  4. The roll card says 22, success, and Brenna confesses she promised half the dragon's hoard to the outriders.

    The story answers

The next page is written around what the dice said. Success, failure and everything between change the story for good.

A story together: a candlelit table, four seats with one taken, and a six-letter invite code with a Share invite button.

Play together

One story, up to four friends, each with their own hero

Start a story and send a six-letter code, a link or a QR. Everybody sits down with a hero of their own, puts in a world idea, and votes on the one you play. Then the story moves in rounds: everybody chooses, and it all happens on one page.

  • Up to four players at one table; the storyteller plays the rest
  • Rounds of 90 seconds: vote on what the party does, or in a fight pick your own hero's action
  • Hold to talk with your friends, or chat in text. Never recorded
  • The host's plan pays for the table. Friends play free
  • A win pays everybody at the table the same free turns
  • Leave whenever you like: the storyteller keeps your hero with the party

What is in it

A roster of four heroes: Brenna Ashford, human fighter; Pip Tealeaf, halfling rogue; Ilyra Moonweave, elf wizard; Korrin Emberscale, dragonborn paladin.

Heroes of every class

Twelve classes and nine peoples, each with a portrait painted from your words. Bring up to four into a story: you play one, the others travel as companions who talk, take sides and notice how you treat them.

  • Classes, peoples, moves and conditions built on the SRD 5.2
  • The people you meet keep their names and remember you
  • Three difficulties, from gentle to harsh
The last fight: the dragon Vharzul behind the page, the fight board with the turn order and each hero's hit points, and the story of the exchange.

Face the dragon

In a fight the foe stands behind the page and the board keeps the score: who acts when, every hero's hit points, every condition. The whole party rolls at once, and you can read exactly what each die did.

  • Tap a foe to see what hurts it and what its blow can leave
  • Hit points, damage and loot are kept by the game, not the AI
  • A boss swings more than once an exchange
Lunaria's shop: Buy and Sell, potions and remedies with their prices, and 60 gold in the purse.

Lunaria's shop

Towns have markets. Where no shop could be, in a cave or on a mountain road, a trader called Lunaria turns up with her wares on a cloth, when your gold has nowhere else to go. Buy, sell, and take what you bought into the next fight.

  • Potions, weapons, armour and more, with real prices
  • Sell what you found for coin
  • Loot from a fight goes straight into your pack
Levelling up: Korrin Emberscale, level 3 paladin, chooses one of Shield of Faith, Aid or Shining Smite.

Moves, and a level every chapter

Every hero has moves: spells, strikes, tricks. Each time a chapter closes the party gains a level, and every hero is offered three new moves and keeps one. You choose for your companions too.

  • Use a move by tapping it, or say it in your own words
  • Spell slots and uses come back when you rest
  • Change which moves are ready after a long rest
A painted moment under the story text: Brenna, Korrin and Pip at the mouth of the dragon's cave in the snow.

Painted as you go, read aloud as it happens

Ask for a picture of the place you are in, the moment you are living, or the face of somebody you met. Every page can be read aloud, in the voices of the people in it.

  • Pictures are off until you turn them on
  • Read aloud is part of every plan
  • A place somebody has already painted costs nothing
The Adventures shelf: The Bell at Low Tide, with its party, length and difficulty.

Written adventures

Stories somebody sat down and wrote

Fixed scenes, real choices and more than one ending, played with four ready heroes by the same rules and dice. They never use turns, and you can play them as often as you like.

More on the way

New written adventures are added over time. Every one you can play is on this shelf.

Difficulty

Choose how hard the world is

Gentle

Easier rolls, fewer and smaller fights, and no foe strikes you while you are down.

Standard

The game as it is written. A check outside a fight is 2 easier.

Harsh

Harder rolls, cleverer foes, and traps that can floor you. A bad decision costs what it actually costs.

The storyteller is an AI

What the AI does, and what it never does

We would rather say it plainly than have you find out. Choicewright is written with AI, and played by rules the AI does not control.

The AI writes

  • Every page of your story, and every person and creature you meet
  • The moves it suggests, which you are free to ignore
  • Pictures of places, moments and faces, when you ask for one
  • The voices that read the story aloud

The game keeps

  • The dice. They are rolled on our server by the rules, never by the AI
  • Your hit points, items, coin and conditions. The AI's answer is checked before anything changes
  • Your stories, on our server, so a lost phone does not lose them
  • Your words. We do not train AI on them, and our AI provider does not keep them

It is still an AI: now and then it will get a name wrong or write something odd. Everything it makes is labelled as AI, a safety check reads what it writes, and you can report any page or picture from the app. A person reads every report. (The two paintings on this page are the game's own painter at work, too.)

Plans

Start free. Then choose how much story you want.

Free to start

The Prologue is free: enough turns to see whether this is for you. No subscription, no card. The written stories are free to play, with ads.

What a turn is

One thing you do, and the page the storyteller writes back. Plans and packs count turns, never words or minutes. Written stories use none.

Questions

What people ask first

Is it free?

Starting is. The Prologue gives every new account thirty turns, once, with no subscription and no card. The written adventures are free to play with a short ad as each chapter begins. After that, the plans are monthly, and there are one-off packs.

Which AI is it? Is it ChatGPT?

No. The stories, pictures and voices are made by AI models run for us by DeepInfra, in the United States. The rules, the dice and your character sheet are not AI at all: they are the game, on our server.

Do you train AI on my stories?

No. We do not use your stories or chats to train AI, and our AI provider does not keep what we send it. What is sent, to whom and why is in the Privacy Policy.

Are there ads?

Only in the written adventures, which are free: a short ad as each chapter begins. Any plan removes them, and any one story can be bought without ads for good. The stories the AI storyteller writes for you have no ads.

Can I play offline?

No. The storyteller, the dice and your saved stories live on our server, so Choicewright needs an internet connection. The good side: your stories are not lost with your phone.

Do I need to know Dungeons & Dragons?

No. You say what your hero does in plain words, and the game tells you when to roll and what you need. If you know the fifth edition rules you will recognise them: the rules include material from the SRD 5.2.

Can my friends play with me?

Yes, up to four at a table. Each of them needs the app and their own account; you send them a six-letter code or a link. The host's plan pays for the table's turns.

Why 18 and over?

It is dark fantasy: battles, monsters, grief and betrayal are part of it. Some things are never allowed, and the Community Guidelines say which. A safety check reads what players and the AI write, and a person reviews every report.

When does it come out?

Soon, on the App Store and Google Play. Until then you can join the beta.

How do I delete my account?

In the app (Settings, your email, Delete account), or on the website with a code we email you. Both delete it at once.

Something else? Support answers in English or Greek.

Before launch

Play it now: join the beta

Choicewright is in testing on iPhone and Android. Ask to join and we will add you: tell us which phone you have and the email you use on its store, because that is how testers are invited. Testers play the same game, with the same free Prologue.

No mail app on this device? Write to [email protected] from any. Prefer to wait? The App Store and Google Play listings are coming soon, and this page will link them the day they open.
